UPDATE #2: I Draw Cars, Sketchbook & Reference Guide
Nearly two months ago to the day I posted about this really neat Kickstarter project that I had helped support, and a month ago I gave the first update on its process after being fully funded. Fast-forward to today and voilà, I Draw Cars: Sketchbook & Reference Guide has arrived.

Matt and Adam did a fantastic job creating a beginners guide to sketching cars, which are arguably some of the most difficult things to draw. I Draw Cars is chock full of great information ranging from day 1 ID studio lessons about design terminology and wheelbase proportions to the more advanced tip-up 3/4 perspectives.

All great stuff, but what’s really neat (and something I wish we’d had when I was at CCS) are the perspective guides that follow each section. There are more than enough to get you started creating your very own hot sketches.

Now if only my other Kickstarter contribution would get here…
Get your very own copy of I Draw Cars: Sketchbook & Reference for just $24.99.

UPDATE #1: I Draw Cars, Sketchbook & Reference Guide
If you remember, I shared this neat Kickstarter project with you about a month ago. For those that don’t—it’s a book put together by a couple of CCS design guys to help young designers hone their sketching skills. As an ex-automotive designer, I love it and immediately contributed (I hope you did too).
Fast forward to today: My inbox contained an update on the production of I Draw Cars. That update? The above image of the finished book! There’s no delivery date yet, but I’m hoping it coincides with my other Kickstarter contribution I made in July. Should make for a fun August/September!

    Henry, Carl - Jon Klassen

We Are The Friction is a book of illustration and short fiction created by 12 pairs of international writers and illustrators. It’s the second book edited, designed and published by Sing Statistics, the collaborative concern of Jez Burrows and Lizzy Stewart. The book paired writers with illustrators, both established and emerging in their disciplines. Each then produced new work inspired by the work of their partner: stories from illustrations, and illustrations from stories. The result is an erratic, eclectic collection of work that takes in space travel, Japanese deities, monster husbandry, and the Marx Brothers. We hope you’ll like it.

Mafia - The Government’s Secret File on Organized Crime

Hands down, MAFIA is a must-have reference book for organized crime researchers. This book is an exact copy of the old Federal Bureau of Narcotics reference on 800 organized crime figures (circa the early 1960s) that thankfully has been reproduced for our enjoyment. This is definitely the “Mafia Bible” of that time period — filled with information on gangsters from coast to coast.

    Designing Obama, The Book

The Obama presidential campaign was innovative. For the first time in American politics, a candidate used art and design to bring together the American people—capturing their voices in a visual way.

The Design Director of the Obama campaign, Scott Thomas, has collaborated with artists and designers to create Designing Obama, a chronicle of the art from the historic campaign. Get the inside story on how design was used by the campaign, and scope out the pieces, created unofficially, by grassroots supporters.

The 360-page book is full-color and hardbound, highly crafted with an embossed sleeve. Forewords written by Steven Heller and Michael Bierut.
