Another reason is an open circuit on one of the light bulbs, which stops the power from reaching one of the light bulbs.

The problem can also come from a skinned wire. The current flowing from the circuit to the vehicle body, or a short to ground, will be created.

Faulty flasher relay

Clearly, a defective flasher relay or rusted relay pins can cause this issue. But you should know that this does not usually happen, for example, when water reaches the fuse box and brings corrosion or rush to the fuses and relays pins.

How To Solve The Turn Signals’ Fast Blinking Issue

Step 1. Check all the turn signals

Ensure that all the turn signals are working by using the multi-function switch to turn on them on the side they are blinking fast.

If they are still working, you can skip step 2 and 3.

Step 2. Check the defective light bulb

Your problem usually lies there. You need to take out the light bulbs to examine whether the wire inside is damaged. If you see a black fog on the bulb, it is not usable anymore.

If you are not clear about how to remove your light bulbs, check the manufacturer’s manual for instructions.

In some cases, finding these bulbs is very simple because you have enough space to take it out. Meanwhile, on some cars, you need to remove the battery or air filter box first. That is why you should look at the manual.

If the problem lies in the turn signal light bulb, replace the broken bulb, and test the new one again. If there is still speedy blinking, go to step 3.

Step 3. Check the power and ground

The next thing to examine is whether good power and ground come to the bulb socket or not. If not, the light cannot light up and can make fast blinking.

You need to unplug the turn signal connector and test the power and ground by using a multimeter or a test light. If there is no problem with the power and ground, the light bulb socket can be defective. Replace it, and you have done. If not, continue with step 4.

Step 4. Check the turn signal relay

The control side of the relay that stops working cannot make the relay click anymore. Thus, the light bulbs will not have enough power to work.

A defective relay can make all the left or all the right signals stop functioning together. If only one of the left or right signal works, jump to step 6.

But when all of the turn signals on one side do not function, you need to take the relay out to check the continuity of its control side. If it is okay, then check the switch side of the relay next.

A bad reading on this continuity test means that you need to replace the relay.

Step 5. Replace the relay

Actually, replacing the turn signal relay is one of the easiest fixings to do. Plus, it is not expensive, so you can replace your old turn signal flasher relay with a new one. There is no need to worry about installing it inaccurately – it only goes in one way.

If you have replaced the turn signal relay and checked that all the light bulbs are in good condition, but the problems have not been fixed, you need to go with serious electrical troubleshooting. The wire can be damaged somewhere so that the power cannot reach its destination.

We know this will be a hard job. Following a loose wire or a ground that is not grounding can cause you neck pain. But we have to do it.

Step 6. Check the connections

There are many possible causes of the open circuit condition. Mice or squirrels may chew the electric wires, or rust may break the wires.

You need to track down the wire and test it at each connector until you find the one without power. The problem can lie between the first bad connector and the last good one. The burnt or broken wire may be in contact with a hot part inside the engine bay or rubbed against something else.

UPDATE #2: I Draw Cars, Sketchbook & Reference Guide


Nearly two months ago to the day I posted about this really neat Kickstarter project that I had helped support, and a month ago I gave the first update on its process after being fully funded. Fast-forward to today and voilà, I Draw Cars: Sketchbook & Reference Guide has arrived.

Matt and Adam did a fantastic job creating a beginners guide to sketching cars, which are arguably some of the most difficult things to draw. I Draw Cars is chock full of great information ranging from day 1 ID studio lessons about design terminology and wheelbase proportions to the more advanced tip-up 3/4 perspectives.

All great stuff, but what’s really neat (and something I wish we’d had when I was at CCS) are the perspective guides that follow each section. There are more than enough to get you started creating your very own hot sketches.

Cars That Will Save The Nation


The world is becoming an increasingly volatile place; war is common as are random acts of terrorism. It is these acts which can be the most concerning; a well planned attack is likely to be uncovered and destroyed by one of the many government agencies. However a random, one time strike is much harder to protect against. Governments are becoming increasingly concerned with the nation’s reliance on fuel sourced from off shore. Possibly for the first time in history the entire armed forces could be grounded if certain supply lines were cut.

The most logical alternative is to find a new source of power, preferably one that is abundantly available and requires no reliance on other nations. Car manufacturers have been looking into alternatives to the traditional gasoline engine for many years. Is it possible that this technology will enable the nation to become self sufficient if required?

The Technology

Gasoline engines run on petrol – an oil based liquid which is finite in supply. Experts have predicted that the oil currently known of and being mined will last for approximately another forty five years. This means that life as we all know has to change within your lifetime; the alternative is a world plunged back into the dark ages.

There have been many attempts to extract sufficient power from wind farms and solar energy but, as yet these have not been successful in generating enough power to stop the dependence on fossil fuels. Car manufacturers have taken a different approach and are researching and developing new ways of powering the automobiles on our roads.

Cars That Will Save The NationHybrid cars

The first step in decreasing fuel consumption was to increase the miles per gallon, this was the catalyst for the hybrid car. A hybrid car is powered by both a petrol engine and an electric engine. Some of these vehicles need to be plugged in to recharge the batteries they carry on-board whilst others are able to recharge their batteries whilst driving using power from the gasoline engine.

These cars are a huge step forward but still have a reliance on fossil fuels. It is also necessary to question what fuel is being used to generate the electricity at home; which is used to recharge the car. As an alternative to a dependence on oil it is a step in the right direction but the need for regular recharging does not yet make it a viable technology.

Hydrogen Cars

There has been a great interest in the power possibilities of hydrogen. NASA was using this technology on a large scale in the 1950’s and there were several attempts to build a hydrogen powered vehicle in the 1960’s and 70’s. The projects achieved some success but were abandoned, ironically due to the abundance of oil which was being discovered and mined.

Hydrogen power produces only water whilst offering the potential to power rockets! The possibility of switching to this type of power would mean a massive drop in harmful pollutants around the world. This is something that many environmentalists are pushing towards before it is too late.

A hydrogen powered car mixes hydrogen with oxygen and ignites it with a spark. This is very similar to the process used in the normal fossil fuel engines. However, hydrogen has proved difficult to store in a car and it has been necessary to develop fuel cells for this purpose. These are presently expensive and increase the price of your average car dramatically.

The two main obstacles to utilizing hydrogen powered vehicles are:

  • Safety: Hydrogen is a light gas and exists naturally in the environment; mixed with other elements. Once it has been isolated it can be mixed with oxygen but the slightest spark will ignite the mix. Hydrogen tanks are, at the minimum, double skinned but there is still a substantial risk of explosion in an accident.
  • Infrastructure: The cost to create an infrastructure which would allow drivers to refill when needed is huge. At present there are few garages which are able to distribute hydrogen and without an increase in this the idea of cars powered by hydrogen will remain a concept.

Vehicles are already in production and will be available soon. The government needs to see the potential in this technology and the freedom it could provide to a nation; they will then need to assist with establishing an infrastructure to support it. It is possible that this technology could not just save the nation; it might actually save the world!

Air Cars

These have also been in existence for a considerable amount of time but the technology has some serious limitations. An air powered engine works on the same basis as a gasoline powered engine but air is used to move the pistons instead of a petrol/air explosion. For this to happen the air needs to be compressed and the pressure required is not yet possible at home. Additionally these vehicles are relatively slow and will not cover the same distance as a hydrogen fuel cell powered car. Whilst there is scope for the air car to become a bigger player in the automobile market it is not yet in a position to provide a complete solution.


Saving a nation or the world is a grand statement but is actually feasible. Hydrogen powered vehicles are possible and can be a practical alternative to the traditionally powered vehicle. There are potential higher maintenance costs and production costs and these will need to be addressed, but as a solution to dependence on both fossil fuels and other nations it is an expense that is worth justifying. As with many new technologies the cost will come down fairly quickly and the more mainstream the technology becomes the more improvements will be made in this field. The infrastructure is already starting to be put into place. Should this technology be coupled with the autonomous vehicles that are starting to appear it may actually be possible to reduce accident casualties. All whilst emitting nothing more harmful than water!

The Hydrogen Hype: Cars Or No Cars


The U.S. committed to taking a stance on addressing environmental concerns during 2003. $1.2 billion dollars was earmarked for development to begin on a hydrogen infrastructure: essentially a network of facilities running from coast-to-coast that would be responsible for production and distribution of hydrogen to power fuel cell vehicles by the hundreds of millions.

With the environment becoming such a growing concern and $720 million spent so far, the only question that we now want the answer to is “Are we getting close?” Unfortunately, every single answer comes back the same –“No”. Years of promises that gave us visions of a thriving economy in hydrogen — capable of not only supporting vehicles, but also entire neighborhoods, homes, computers, and cell phones, seems to be as far off as it ever was.

By 2030, there should be an approximate 34 percent increase in the consumption of fossil fuels across the nation, as reported by the Department of Energy. When these fossil fuels are burned, millions of tons of harmful substances, such as carbon dioxide, are released into the atmosphere. These trapped gasses heat up, and are said to be a major contributor to global warming.

The Hydrogen Hype Cars Or No CarsWhy we want hydrogen

When hydrogen is consumed however, plain, pure water is the only emission. The main drawback seems to be that hydrogen, unlike gas and oil, is not a fuel. It is a transport or storage method for energy. It has to be created before it can be used.

Transportation of fossil fuels like gas and oil are an easy matter to transport around in fuel tanks and pipelines, since they are so dense and stable. However, hydrogen brings along an array of economic and technical problems with it.

That day can’t come too soon for the U.S.’s largest three automakers, along with Nissan, BMW, Honda, and Toyota. Current cars running on fuel cells can achieve speeds of up to 132 mph, and have a 300 mile range on just 17.6 pounds of hydrogen. But without the needed critical infrastructure in place, the hydrogen economy will never be able to get off the ground.

Easily one of the modern world’s most important concerns is environmental health. With continuing issues such as global warming, all of mankind has taken up the search for safe and renewable natural resources that are capable of supporting humans for decades and decades. With the accepted belief being that the largest contributor to air pollution is gas vehicles, a true alternative must be found.

Equally accepted is the thought that we will not just be able to give up daily driving and has all of the air pollution stop immediately. So, the next best thing is preventing further damage by driving with an alternative fuel source. Enter hydrogen.

Hydrogen Cars Concept

Many studies and plenty of research have gone into scientists saying that hydrogen cars are a better choice than conventional models. Some of the reasons are obvious to even the least science minded among us. But what exactly are these cars? What are the pros and the cons of hydrogen cars?

The Pros and The Cons

Here are some of the main advantages and disadvantages to using hydrogen as a fuel in cars, and to help understand the concepts behind it:


  • No threat to the environment is posed since hydrogen cars are eco-friendly.
  • Fossil fuels are non-renewable and limited. Hydrogen is available in vast amounts and there will never be any worries about it becoming depleted.
  • For cars that use hydrogen fuel cells, ninety to ninety-five percent of the energy generated transforms into electrical energy, further making these cars even more efficient.
  • Even long-haul and large size vehicles will greatly benefit from the use of hydrogen.
  • There is no release of harmful gasses as a by-product. This works in favor of less air pollution as well, since there is only a small amount of heat and water that come out as by-products.
  • Per kilogram of hydrogen, mileage should be around sixty miles on average.


  • It is quite expensive to construct each individual fuel cell. The main reason for the cost is the need for platinum, which is expensive and hard to find.
  • In the event that there was any damage done to the fuel cell, the repair cost would be on the high side. Maintenance is also expected to be a fair bit higher than for a traditional vehicle.
  • Ones of the common concerns heard is regarding storage. Due to the fact that hydrogen is a highly flammable material, there is a true risk to a full car explosion even if involved in only a minor collision with another heavy object, such as a vehicle, garage door, etc.
  • There are some restrictions on temperature for hydrogen powered vehicles to perform at their optimum levels. For example, if you live in an area with cold winters and the ambient temperature falls below zero, there is the potential for the water to freeze in the fuel cells.
  • If you are the type of driver who looks for, and enjoys the feeling of speed and pick-up, you will be overly disappointed with how the hydrogen cars perform.
  • There are currently no fueling stations that are easily available for hydrogen. Unlike gas stations that can be found on almost every street corner, and a stone’s throw away from the interstate, hydrogen fueling stations are few and far between. This could cause real problems if your route and miles have not been planned right down to the last pound of hydrogen.

It is going to take plenty of time and effort, and almost unspeakable amounts of money to build the type of infrastructure that we are going to need in order to see hydrogen cars becoming the big boy on the playground.
