2018 Nissan Titan XD Diesel Problems

First off, the 2018 Nissan Titan XD may be prone to some engine problems. While it would have been better if the vehicle has a more reliable engine to better outperform other pick-up trucks in this category, it simply is not the case.

For instance, some people complain about seeing a number of engine problems with this particular model. A diesel lag response seems to be quite common, as well as some issues with shifting on the transmission. It may be an intermittent problem or constant.

Another complaint with the 2018 Nissan Titan XD is the engine ticking and knocking. Although the engine is intended for heavy-duty work, the engine does not quite live up to its standards. In fact, the tools necessary to fix the damage are not widely available since these are not provided by the manufacturer.

There were also concerns with the truck having bad hesitation when you shift the automatic transmission from one gear to the next. The RPMs tend to fluctuate terribly and there is zero low-end power. The condition even gets worse when you tow.

When one 2018 Nissan Titan XD owner brought the vehicle to the dealership, they confirmed that there is a factory notice indicating a known issue with the motor. Once the issue is determined to be a defective engine, it may take another 3 up to 4 weeks for the engine to be completely replaced. So, if the engine ends up failing at a high speed rate, it is possible for the brakes or steering to go bad.

When there is a need to pull out at an intersection coming from a dead stop or merging right onto the interstate, the vehicle tends to stall and the throttle response is pretty much non-existent. This makes it more possible for the cars behind to rear-end you, which can be a major accident concern.

Transmission Problems With The 2018 Nissan Titan XD

The transmission works in conjunction with your engine. Thus, it is supposed to offer a smooth-shifting capability regardless of the heavy load. However, additional problems may arise with the powertrain and transmission of the vehicle.

There were concerns with bad hesitation when you shift the automatic transmission from one gear to the next. The RPMs also fluctuate drastically, which is not very common -nor is it existent – with other models of the Nissan Titan. However, it seems to be quite apparent to the 2018 model.

Unfortunately, Nissan lacks any explanation to shed some light to this powertrain situation. So, the owners have to deal with the issue themselves, which can be difficult for them.

Another issue is that when in a rolling stop, the vehicle tends to lag or stall. After consulting the dealership, they claim that a software update would be necessary. However, even after conducting this update, it did not solve the problem.

There is also the issue with the truck going into a “pedal dead” condition upon getting in the intersection. This means that the accelerator has failed to function as it should. Thus, this exposed the driver and the passengers to a potential collision accident. Although they have taken the truck to the dealer, no permanent fix has been made to it.

The problem continues to persist and often occurs when you pull into an intersection or when you maneuver into a passing lane.

Fuel System Issues

The fuel system is responsible for supplying diesel or gasoline fuel to the engine, which is then burned for the vehicle to perform. But with the 2018 Nissan Titan XD, there appears to be an issue with this component, as well.

One owner notes that while fueling and the truck is in a stationary position, the filler neck produces a high-pitched whining noise. This noise changes from one pitch to the next, depending on how much fuel the tank gets.

Aside from the noise, there is also the issue with the fuel leaking out while refilling. This appears to be a defect to the system, and it is not quite working as it should.

Electrical System Concerns

And lastly, there is another complaint with the electrical system of the vehicle. It is a key component of the truck, and it is supposed to work fine to avoid any malfunctions or glitches to it.

However, there were people who complained about the vehicle not starting even after contacting Roadside Assistance to jumpstart the truck. Once towed and inspected by a mechanic, it was found out that the electrical harnesses require replacement because of damages.

Final Words

Overall, there are quite a number of 2018 Nissan Titan XD diesel problems that arise whether it is with the electrical system, fuel system, and transmission. With these things in mind, it is best to be aware of these issues first-hand before you consider purchasing this truck.

Or, if you already own this vehicle, it is important to know how to deal with these problems once they arise. By doing so, you can prevent any accidents while on the road and get the problem fixed correctly to avoid further damage to critical components.

  1. I have a 2018 and dont have a single one of these issues. The claim of no acceleration when towing is laughable. Who ever said that must be comparing it to full 3/4 or 1 ton diesels.

  2. I OWN A NISSAN TITAN PRO4-X DIESEL. THERE ARE AFTERMARKET PEDAL COMMANDERS THAT ARE ON THE MARKET. REMEMBER THE MANUFACTOR HAS TO MEET STRICKED EMISSON STANDARDS ON THE DIESEL’S ESPECIALLY. THUS, THE THROTTLE BODY IS WORKING TO ABOUT 25% OF IT’S CAPABILITY. IMANGINE GETTING 75% TO 80% OF THAT THROTTLE BODY TO OPEN. THAT WAY YOU ARE NOT WAITING FOR THE TURBO TO SPOON UP. BOY WHEN THE TUBO SPOONS UP AT A FASTER ACCCELERATION RATE THAT CUMMIN PREFORMS. I USE ON MY TRUCK AND IT SOLVED HESITATION. COLD AIR INTAKE AND EXHAUST ALSO HELPED THANKS TO AFE. THERE IS DIFFERENT SETTING FOR THE THROTTLE RESPONSE.
