That’s right. Gemballa, the infamous hi-po Porsche tuner responsible for monsters like the Avalanche GTR800 EVO-R. The one who’s founder, Uwe Gemballa was shot dead in South Africa after a money laundering scheme went bad. Yeah, that one.

It’s not the first Gemballa has sidestepped Porsche for greener, albeit stranger pastures (e.g. the Ferrari Enzo-based MIG-U1). For their motorsport debut they’ve chosen to campaign two McLaren MP4-12C GT3 for the 2012 racing season.

Team owner, Steffen Korbach explains their decision:
“We chose the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 because we think this car has the potential to be one of the season’s leaders.”
Did they miss the MP4-12C GT3’s not-so-successful racing debut?

Ayrton Senna’s 1991 McLaren MP4/6 Formula One racer will by put up for auction by international car auctioneers, COYS at their Nurburgring sale on August 13th.

Senna’s final championship-winning car was converted to this giant ‘Airfix’ model kit by student artist Jay Burridge in 1992. Its said that Senna was huge fan of scale models and often flew his own model helicopter at the track.
It’s estimated Burridge’s Senna MP4/6 sculpture will sell anywhere between $50–60,000 USD.
